Transmission problem

Ok. I just recently bought this car to transfer me back and forth to school and work... After coming out of work one day, I put my car into drive after backing out, and the RPM would go up but the car would barley move... If I put it in 1 or 2 the car will pull with no problem... I don't know what it is about Drive. It's almost like its in neutral or drives like a stick. Help Please
