Engine Performance problem

Without warning, my car stalled at a stop sign yesterday. All the needles went down and the car died. The emergency blinkers still worked. I couldn't get it to start until I tried about 10 times. There was no noise of the engine turning over until it actually started. I drove the 5 blocks home with no traffic (luckily), scooting through the rest of the stop signs and slowing down at turns. Any suggestions?
