Engine Mechanical problem

My car won't start and when it does it starts to sputter and skip, and then it cuts off.Wwhenever I lift the hood and crank it up, it sounds like the engine is sucking air in. I took it to autozone and had the battery and alternator checked and the guy said that the alternator was fine but my battery was bad. And since that day it has not started once. All I get when I try to crank it is a clicking noise. What does this problem sound like to you?
