Engine Performance problem

We have a 98 VW Cabriolet. It starts fine and runs great for about 30 minutes without a problem. Then suddenly once it gets warmed up it stalls and will not restart. Cranks but will not start.

If we leave the vehicle alone for about 30 minutes to an hour it will start right up and run fine again for about another 30 minutes.

The problem started about 2 weeks ago when I was trying to get the check engine light off to pass inspection. We sprayed out the throttle body, cleaned the fuel filter and put a bottle of injector cleaner in it. Light went off and stayed off for a while. Now it sometimes comes on and goes off.

Lately it has been running the same amount of time but sometimes takes longer to cool off. Have heard some suggestions of fuel pump or possibly fuel filter. Any suggestions?

What is the error code associated with the check light?

If there is a problem with the engine management system you cannot just sweep it under the carpet and hope everything will work out.
