Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 140000 miles

I have a 1998 Mercury Sable with 80000 miles on the motor (140000 on the car) which seemed to be having timing problems. The car had been missing intermittenly at idle and at highway speeds.
Before I could look into it I let the car set for 3 days and when I tried to start it I couldn't get it to fire. I thought it was a timing problem so I replaced the timing chain and then I discovered that I had no fuel pressure so I replaced the fuel pump, relay and filter.
The car turns over fine but just won't fire. All spark plugs are getting fire and I have fuel pressure. During all this I had the battery unhooked and lost any check engine codes that might have been in the system. I don't want to keep replacing parts that may or may not be the problem. Any ideas?
