Electrical problem

I'm having some trouble with the charging system on my 98 Sable. When the car is warmed up it becomes progressively harder to start the car and within a couple/three tries it won't turn over as in it sounds like the battery is dead. On the other hand, give it 10 minutes or when the car has cooled and the car will start. I replaced the battery which did nothing and I took it to a shop and they said the alternator was shot and replaced it. Problem remains as before. What might this be?
