Electrical problem
1998 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 185000 miles

Before I get to far, first let me say that, I am disabled and can't test anything, myself. I have NO testing equipment , ( ie. volt meters ) or any tools for that matter. I am on a small disability check and can't take the car to a shop.

This sable won't do anything when the key is turned over. The dash lights, dome lights, clock, radio, all come on, but no start. It will start and run fine, when jumped. The wife stopped at a parts place and they checked the alternator and they said it checked fine, they said it was the battery, so it was replaced with a new one. Started and done fine for 4 or 5 days, then this morning, nothing !. It will do fine, if jumped, but we can't turn the car off. The battery indicator light on the dash does NOT come on while driving, just when you turn the key over ( like it's suppose too ).
We had to replace the catalytic converters about 3 weeks ago ( there went our Stimulus Check ! ) because they said the fuel filter clogged up and burned them out. The check engine light was on right before we had to replace them, it went out for the first day we got the car back and now it's on again ?.
Could somebody help with this car !. It's the only way we have to get to the doctor's office and grocery store and go to church. Since I have become disabled I feel useless enough, but these cars nowadays are way beyond my understanding.
