Engine Cooling problem

The water pump and belt has been replaced in the car. Yesterday, the dash told me the coolant was low, so I placed some in chamber, after a few miles, it told me again that it was low and to check engine temp. The gauge went to the red zone. I shut the car off. After 20 minutes, I started it again and tried to get home, which I did. I noticed that the guage went from red back to normal. I shut the car off. The car will now barely crank but will not turn over. What does it sound like?
