Transmission problem
1998 Ford Mustang 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 89500 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1998 Ford Mustang 3.8 liter, V6 engine. I just recently purchased this car knowing it had this problem. The clutch was replace in the car 2 years ago, aprox 34-35,000 miles ago. I was told they "adjusted the clutch" but to my knowledge this car has a self adjusting clutch. ANYHOW, the clutch pedal is entirely too tight in my opinion. You have to get it all the way to the floor most of the time for it to engadge. I can hear a lound whining noise if you even tap the clutch pedal, which I suspect is the throw out baring but the other symptoms don't remind me of when this happened to my other car. Occasionaly I will hear a loud pop come from the rear end, but not all the time. It won't smoothly shift from gear to gear. You have to shift into neutral for a split second before going on to another gear... thus making any real speed in this car impossible. I'm considering just replaceing the clutch cable all together with a Ford cable. Am I working in the right direction or am I out in left field?
