Transmission problem
1997 Toyota Rav4 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 187000 miles

Clutch was replaced at aprox. 130,000 miles.

When running, it cannot be shifted from one gear to another. The shifter is stuck in whichewver gear it happens to be in. When the car is off, the shifter moves freely.

Fluids, and pedal feel are all normal. Car will run fine
in one gear ( i got it to the shop by putting it in 3rd before starting).

Mechanic says that the clutch should be replaced again, at a cost of more than $1300.00

Could something else be the cause?
