Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Toyota Avalon 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 152000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I am reassembling this engine and have ran into a difference when trying to align the cams on the rear/Right head. Haynes manual says at TDC to align 2 dots on each cam driven gear to point at each other. For the front/left head they say 1 dot.
The alignment of the front/left head works fine with the timing belt cam gear on that head.
It is 180 Cam degrees off for the rear head, with the #1 intake valves just starting to open. The mark on the cam timing belt gear points down rather than up as it should.
Is there anything I am missing or did Haynes just make a mistake and the rear/right head should really have 1 dot pointing at each other as with the front/right head.
Both rear gears on the cams have 1 dot and 180 degrees apart they have 2 dots.
Thanks,
Terry
