Engine Performance problem

Hi,
I am looking at 1997 Grand Am as a temporary car for my wife. The car starts and then stalls. After doing some research it appears it is most likely the Passkey anti-theft shuting the injectors off as the anti-theft light blinks when it runs for a few seconds. I tried the 10 min key reset which didn't work. tried it twice.
The owner told me he had replaced the battery in the last month as it had died and he had to reset the radio with codes from the dealer.
I was looking at how to disable the passlock system and ran across an article that said a GM car which has Passkey/Passlock anti theft system which has had the battery removed for a period of time can enter "Long Tamper Mode". I believe the battery was out for only a few days. If it was completly dead it could have been dead upto a month as he had it running a month ago.

How long does the battery haft to be removed for "Long Tamper Mode" to happen?
What is the reset for this?
