1997 Plymouth Voyager starter messing up

Electrical problem
1997 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200+ miles
i had this van for a very long time. now its acting up. i will go to start the van and it will just click and click.. no turn over.. i changed the battery along with the plugs. it didnt help. it just clicks when i go to turn the key.. after so many times of turning the key and hearing the clicking noise the engine will sometimes turn over... any info would be great |

welcome to the forum, I'd make sure the battery has a full charge and the connections are good. If the starter won't, check the circuits at the starter relay, underhood fuse box. Use a testlite check for voltage. Voltage for load side of relay is hot all the time. Voltage for coil side of relay goes hot with the key in the crank position. |

Also try semi-gently smacking the starter body with a smooth face hammer or dead blow mallet. But make sure you battery does have a full charge. Your starter uses 80+ amps @ 12V to turn over. The clicking sound is something that Mopar starters will do if the battery is low on power too.
Another side note. Inspect you battery and battery cable for corrosion and that acts similar to a wall and the electrons will not flow properly to your starter (which will cause it to ask like there is no power in the battery). If you find any corroded wire clean with warm water and baking soda solution, what ever you do don't touch it with your bare hand(s), it does burn. |
