Transmission problem

Hi, thanks in advance for your time and help.

My transmission is slipping badly at about 30=40 mph, i think it is 3rd or 4th gear. Can i just replace the actual gear that is bad or does the whole thing need to be replaced? also are the transmissions of the sport and the regular monteros interchangeable if they are both 1998 4x4s? thanks again.
