1989 BMW 535 won't go in a gear

Transmission problem
1989 BMW 535 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

the car wen put into the drive position or reverse position it won't move forward or backward at all would u be able to help me wit this problem???

The transmission may have a failed component called the "A" pack. Is there fluid in the tranny and if so does it smell burnt or is it dark?
