Engine Mechanical problem

It will act up for a second and then just die in middle of driving it. And won't start back up, the trunk and gas door won't popper will not work also. The first time it happen, after removing the gas cap it started back up. Now it is dead and that won't work. It turns over but has no spark. You can hear the fuel pump turn on and smell the gas when they try to start it. They replaced the spark plugs and wires, but that didn't change anything. What else could it be?
