1997 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

Hi,
I noticed today that my Jeep is leaking water/antifreeze and there are no hoses broken that I can tell of. I'm assuming its the water pump and this is my only vehicle. I'm planning on changing this out myself but was wondering if I am harming my Jeep in driving it while the pump isn't working. I do have water/anti-freeze in the radiator and the reserve. Thanks.

Hello –-

When you say you are loosing water you know it is coming from the water pump and it is on the ground?

Next, it isn’t the best thing in the world to drive with a bad pump since the pump moves the coolant through the engine. So, if it is not moving the coolant as it should then that eventually isn’t good for the engine but you should be okay with that.

My concern is you have clutch driven fan. I have seen the shaft come apart sending the fan into the radiator. So check to make sure your shaft is not loose in any way – you don’t need to pull the fan out of the radiator.
