Engine Performance problem
1997 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 175000 miles

97 Wrangler 4 cyl, turns over fine, but occasionaly at the onset of issues, would not start every so often, had to keep turning it over and would finally start...would go for days, then the same thing - now it wont start.
Can hear the fuel pump making a noise, more of a swoosh than a registering noise - could this be something other than the fuel pump or regulator or filter?
How can i deduce the issue with out going to Jeep dealer and getting killed for a 1/2 hr hookup to the computer? do i need to check the injectors ? Jeep runs just fine when it runs no pops or bumps.
