Transmission problem
1997 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 156000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Recently changed CV Joints. When I first get in car in the morning and put the car in reverse I here a fairly loud clunk when the transmission engages. this only happens in reverse. This does not happen once the car is driven, Nor does it happen when I put the car in Drive, just reverse.
It use to do this in Drive only and not reverse. However when I recently changed the CV Joints I rotated the tires by hand to check clearance issues with brake lines and it changed from happen in forward to happening in reverse only.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Ray Horine,

I would suggest checking the CV inner joints for wear and lack of lubricants.

Thanks for the feedback.

I had just replaced the CV Halfshafts prior to the noise happening. Got the half shafts from Autozone and installed them. I could not tell if the CV joints were pre-lubricated since the CV boots were already installed. I asked if Autozone if they were lubricated and they said they were. But now I question this.
Have you ever run into this???
Thanks

Hi Ray Horine,

I would trust Autozone. If both shafts had been replaced, I would check the lower arm ball joints and bushes, front engine mounts and steering linkages.
