Engine Cooling problem
1997 Ford Thunderbird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 23300 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I recently bought a low mileage nearly mint condition 1997 Thunderbird LX with the 4.6 engine which was subject of a class action suit against the Ford Motor Company because of failing intake manifold cooling passages. My question is a general one. The manifold appears to be fine now but I am concerned about an unexpected failure. Is it a small percentage of these manifolds that fail or do most all of them fail? Should I consider changing the manifold out for one of the upgraded ones with the metal water passages before any failure occurs? What is the risk to the engine should the mainfold fail?
Thanks,
