Electrical problem
1997 Ford F150 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 205000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Truck will start, press brake as usual, but cannot move the automatic gear shift out of Park.

Could it be a fuse?
Sensor?
Other?

How do I check?

this is a temp fix usually, most fords if you turn the key to the first click after the car is on you can shift it to neutral and start it.

Is your brake lights illuminating when the brake pedal is pressed?

try shifting from park and pushing brake pedal at the same time.

get back to me.

The brake lights are not operating. This obviously means something. What should I check next?

The temp fix worked beautifully. I can now operate the vehicle, but the brake lights do not work. So what should I check next?

sounds like the brake light switch is bad, you should replace it or make sure it is properly adjusted.

Checked fuses. Three total blown.

One for brake lights
One for turn signals
One for instrument panel.

Replaced all three.

All three blown again in 2 minutes time.

Obviously something electrical going on. How do I troubleshoot/replace?

check for a short, and that the proper amp fuse is being used.

also check the brake switch may be shorted internally.
