Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Last November i had misfire codes cyl.2 +3, did tune up and car went back to normal. Now it is acting up again. Went back to autozone and was told it could be the plugs, that some cars dont like the boucsh plugs, so i had them changes, and timing belt replaced. Still have problems, this time it doesnt always power up, when giving more gas, it stays the same. My father listened to it and said it sounds like a skip in the engine. Not sure what to do now. Will this be extensive work or can i still remedy this with fuel injector cleaner or some other type of solution. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs! If that doesnt do it, you may need a new idle air control valve, it's bolted to the throttlebody
Do a compression test on it, 2 and 3 are the middle cylinders, and you may have a leaking head gasket...

I changed the coil pack only, used same wires and the symtoms went away. The car is running smoothly now. I can accelerate with no problems. I had the codes cleared before changing coil pack and it was cyl. 1 only misfiring. Last November it was cyl 2+3, and changed coil pack in November too. So, this is the second coil pack for this car. I wonder if there is an issue with coil packs for this car. I have no leaks anywhere. The engine is clean as a whistle, no oil spatters, no vacumm leaks either. Thanks for everything.
