Engine Cooling problem

My wife’s car started over heating about a month ago. I found a bad cap and replaced. The problem did not go away. Checked the thermostat and found it broken and replaced that. I though I had the problem solved but do not. I drove the car for a while and found that it seems to overheat only when using the A/C. I started the car (cold) and the fan did not come on the turned the A/C on and the fan started and shut down when shut off. I then disconnected the temperature sensor and the fan came on although it seemed to come on in high speed. Is this correct and any directions to go in?
