Engine Performance problem

Starting last week, I have been experienceing some new feels at certain times when driving my car. First, at acceleration when going from a complete stop, my car now seems to hesitate. It didn't do that before. Also, proably the same root cause, when I am driving (not on cruise control) and I am periodically axcellerating, I get a type of hesistation (or pause) when I accelerate. Its almost like the car is losing power or simply doesn't have enough power. If you "gun" it, you don't experience the hesitation or loss of power. Once you give the car more gas, it responds. It didn't use to be like this. It seemed more "responsive". This is not the issue when you put it in cruise control. The car maintains the correct speed and you don't get the feeling that there is any type of issue. To make the issue more confusing, I first noticed this on a triip back to Athens from Atlanta. The night before in a the trip from Athens to Atlanta, I didn't notice the issue. I have to beliieve that if this were occuring on the first trip I would have noticed. I noticed it right off when I began my trip back to Athens.

Tune up ????
I would have it checked for tune up and have the filter changed
