Hi:

First, is the check engine light on? If so, have you had the codes pulled? If so, what are they? If not, disconect the batter for about 15 minutes and try it again. To me, it sounds like wires were disturbed and are no longer making good contact.

I look forward to your response.
Joe

the car has been on scanner two or three times. Suppose to have been some type of misfire. As I said when I posted question, The connection in dist. Where the prong of the cap fits in , broke. But my friend replace broken part. Car ran fine for a couple months, But check engine light would come on and stay on for a few days and then it would go out. But it would come on again and keep doing the same thing.( light coming on and then go out after a few days. Thanks

Hi:

Is there any way you can get me the (misfire) code that was pulled? Also, when you say, "...where the Prong of the cap fits in..." Do you mean a part of the cap itself, or is it something internal in the dist? I'm sorry, but without seeing the part, it's hard for me to visualize.

Let me know.

Joe

the part about the dist cap is a prong that is made inside of the cap. when you put the cap on to the dist. the prong goes it to what i think is some type spring loaded plastic slot that sticks up in the dist and the prong has to go in side of it to make the connection so that i guess it gets the fire to start the motor. about the codes, all i can tell you is that the mech. said it had a miss fire code. thanks

Hi:

I think I understand. It it where the rotor touches? I would recommend for the cost, replace both the rotor and cap. They were never really ment to be repaired.

Let me know if that helps.
Joe

both the rotor button and the cap have been replaced. The dist. is were the repairs were made. The car has new ign parts installed (592.50) worth. I really need to know if the car has to be put on any type of new scanning device if i have the dist replaced. The man at the shop said that their is a new device that reprograms the computer when you change the dist. I forgot what he said it was. But he said it was something new out

Hi:

To the best of my knowledge, there is no new tool for that purpose. However, I would call the local dealership and ask the service manager to confirm. If it's new, I may have never heard of it yet.

Do you think it would be ok to go ahead and replace the dist with a rebuilt one.

Yes, I think it will be fine. Please, however, contact the local dealership and confirm the idea that a new too doesn't exist.
