Transmission problem
1997 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 170000 miles

Replaced the radiator and noticed no tranny fluid in tranny coolent lines. Dipstick showed full. Truck then wouldn't go into overdrive. Had tranny fluid replaced and still will not go into overdrive. Any suggestions? I need to make a decision to continue to ship my truck over to Germany under orders of park it here in the states. Any ideas will be appreciated.

you mean you have no fourth gear or you have fourth gear but no torque converter lock up? is the check engine light on? even if its not can you get to autozone and have it scanned for codes (they do it for free) and then get back to me.

Just got back from driving for over an hour. It went into 4th gear (overdrive) but after slowing down for traffic, it would only stay in 3rd gear. It goes through 1-3 gear fine but will not go into 4th like it should. I'm not able to get the truck into a zone until Monday to get the codes check. I'm thinking it's some type of electrical problem but I'm no way a mechanic. Thanks again.

yeah, my guess is a shift solenoid. let us know
