Engine Cooling problem

I keep getting low coolant light. takes about 2qt and light goes out. this seems to be an every month thing to do. No leaks, no coolant in oil. Runs rough sometimes at startup but soon clears up. Sometimes dies suddenly going down the road but restarts fine. I changed fuel filter. No check engine light comes on.
