1997 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi,

My car started overheating. I pulled over, stopped the car, put water in the car and it started running at operating temperature again.

I observed a leak coming from the front of the motor. I suspect the water pump. It's a steady drip... Was hoping to find a tutorial on making the repair myself as I can't afford a garage. I noticed a thread saying it could also be a plastic yube/pipe located behind the tensioner. How do I determine which it is.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Sincrely,

GN

Hi GN:

The only way to be sure if it's the water pum is to get under the vehicle with a light, wipe the pump and plastic hose dry, and wait to see where the drip is coming from.

It may be a dirty job, so be prepaired. Once you find the leak, purchase a repair manual (Chilton is a good one) and look up the problem and follow the directions.

If you have any problems or questions, let me know and I'll do my best to walk you through it.

I look forward to helping you.

Joe
