Transmission problem
1997 BMW 840 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 117000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My BMW 840 is in "limp mode" with the "trans fail-safe program message reading in the display on the dashboard. The diagnostic computer codes come back as 00120 - undocumented code
106 - stall manitoring
100 gear monitoring 2nd - 4th gear
100 gear monitoring 2nd - 4th gear
40 brake light switch/pedal travel
00036 undocumented code
50 fuel line switchover valve circuit
6 wheel speed signal front rigt
7 wheel speed signal front left
Stays in limp mode 3rd gear (Actually in drives in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear at this time.) Repair not (not BMW) says new transmission. Can you comment/interpret these codes. I'm thinking speed sensor or battery problem or voltage problem. Please response. Repair shop wants to charge me over $6000 to put in a new transmission. Somehow I'm thinking not necessary when the car drives. Please respond. Thank you for your time and attention.

Thank you so much for the response. Please excuse my shortness with you and your response. I totally understand about things in life happening. When you say chip for the EGS modules are you talking about sensors? I look forward to you getting to me the part no. Could you also elaborate a bit on what the EGS system is and how it relates to tripping the "trans fail-safe program" or causing the transmission to shut down and permitting driving only in the upper gears. If the codes I provided were generic and not BMW what is the code or codes for the EGS that would pop up on a BMW scan tool or computer? Are the pulse generators, part nos. 13627839138 & 24341218551, part of the EGS system you mentioned? If there is a relation, are pulse generators the same as the speed sensors in the transmission? Thank you.

Dr. Haggerty it would not allow me to utilize the "PM" to send you my contact information unless I had 10 posts which I do not. Please email me at Rawcourt_435@verizon.net with the information for your contact in San Diego regarding the EGS module and the chip. Thank you so much.

My father has a 1996 BMW 840ci and he has some problems with his car too. He had a technician to scan the car and he got two codes. 101 and 102. Gear monitoring. How can he solve this ? I looked on www.realoem.com to find the part but to no avail.
