1997 BMW 528 shifts randomly

Transmission problem
1997 BMW 528 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 151000 miles

I just bought this car and the transmission randomly shifts from D to S1 to S2. It will shift back into D and seems to run fine in each gear except it appears to be in the wrong gear (high revs without shifting). Any ideas?

I dont know if I can help you or not but lets start with you pulling fault codes and reposting.
