Air Conditioning problem

I just bought this car. The temperature control unit was bad and I replaced it. I had the refridgerent evacuated and replaced at my local shop. The compressor will not kick in. Is there a circuit breaker or something for the compressor and if so where is it located? His information indicated that there was one in the fuse holder under the hood but there wasn't.
