Air Conditioning problem

AC hasn't worked since I bought it, but that is OK. Now compressor seized, burned the belt off, and I only intend driving it for few more months, so don't want to spend much more on it.

Retired, I do own work to save money. All I want is to be able to drive the car - don't care if AC works or not.

I wonder if a shorter belt is available, and would work to bypass seized compressor pulley, or a pulley wheel to replace the compressor. and replace original belt. Did VW build these cars without the AC?

If you have any ideas, I would sure appreciate hearing them.
