1996 Toyota Camry car dies at low RPM

1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 159000 miles

This 96 camry I bought runs good at higner RPM, but dies when come to stop sign and at low rpm. timing is little off by the timimg light. fuel filter is old but pumping ok. I thought about changing the idle censor but could not take it off yet. please advise
