1996 Saab 900 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 50,000 miles

The convertible top on my 1996 SAAB 900 goes about half-way up and then gets stuck.

I can hear a clicking sound as though there are some teeth broken off of a gear.

does the top go up if you move it by hand if so I would check all the moving parts and mostly the motor the gear is proboly plastic and you need to replace it

That sounds like it.

The top will go down if I manually lift the plastic cover that goes over the stored top. But the top will go up only half-way, stalls, and I cannot move it manually, although I can hear the electric motor running.

I know I can't fix this myself and have to take it to a dealer.

Am I looking at a $200 repair or a $2,000 repair?
