Transmission problem
1996 Plymouth Breeze 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 130000 miles

I just purchased a used 1996 Plymouth Breeze with a 5-speed manual transmission. it drove beautifully on the way back from the dealership; however, when I took it to a friend's, I shifted into 2nd gear and no longer am able to get out of it. I don't think it's a clutch issue, as when I engage the clutch, it disengages the gear, but even in the neutral position, if I let off the clutch, I'm back in 2nd gear. Could it be something easy like linkage, or is my transmission blown?

The stick moves up and down, but feels like it's only accessing 1st and 2nd, it won't move left or right at all...so it's not really floppy, as in totally loose. It doesn't feel as though the stick is doing nothing, more like it won't slip out of the 1 - 2 gear slot allowing acces to 3 - 4, or 5 - R. But up, down or in the middle/neutra postition, if I let off the clutch, it's inevitably in 2nd. Gearbox issue? Ugh...I think I just bit off more than I can chew. The only saving grace is it's stuck in a gear I can use to get around if I absolutely need to.

So I took it in to get repaired. It was just the linkage. It cost me $50 to get it fixed. Thank, Jeevus!
