1996 Other Nissan Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 197000 miles

1996 Nissan 200 SX, 1.6L with what appears to be factory cruise control. The cruise control on/off switch is on the dash board, left of the steering wheel. The light turns on when the switch is engaged but it no longer engages the cruise control. This occurred immediate after repairing a broken break light stop button on the break pedal. Thanks for any help you can offer.
