Computer problem
1996 Other Chrysler Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 215000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
where is the engine control module located on a 1996 chrysler intrepid, 3.3 litre ?

can it be tested for complete functionability without the engine running ?

The engine wouldn't run unless the computer was at least partially functional.

If the CEL lites for the bulb check, when you turn on the key, that means the computer is awake. With the key on, you can also check for reference voltage at one of the engine sensors, that use a ref voltage. The ref voltage comes from the computer.

Even with all this, the computer could still cause a problem on a individual system. What ever the problem, can you check for troublecodes?
