Brakes problem

Hello,

I have a 1996 Nissan pathfinder. My ABS light came on and when I shut the engine off. It appears a small motor kept on running. This motor is small in size and sits on the same side of the car as the battery and butts up to the fire wall below the window wiper motor. the only prcedure I could do to shut it off was to disconect the battery and that worked. What is this? and what could keep it running?
