1996 Mitsubishi Montero oxygen sensor

Engine Performance problem
1996 Mitsubishi Montero 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 176000 miles

how do you get the oxygen sensor our for replacement? bank 2 sensor shows bad. It is on top of the exhaust Y tilted toward the body and I can't get an O2 socket or wrench on the sensor to take it out. the only way I can see is to cut the top off and then use a conventional power wrench. Is there a trick that I am missing?
