Electrical problem
1996 Mitsubishi Montero 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 67000 miles

When activating the cruise control, the main switch lights up. But when I select the lever on the steering wheel to "SET" as I am driving cruise control will not take over. I did a visual inspection of hoses and control cables under hood and did not see anything evident. I have the electronic schematic and it seems to me that it could be a relay. But I rather ask the experts, usually it is something more simple. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
