Engine Performance problem

This car takes too many trys to keep running and then it has rough idle or will shut off when coming to a stop. Once while driving it just quit.....What is wrong, where do I start

Sounds like a bad mass air flow sensor. When these go bad, the give a false readin to the computer and causes a rough idle, hesitation and can cause the engine to die.
