Heater problem
1996 Mazda 626 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 106000 miles

My temp gage goes up and down and heat blows lukewarm air or when driving it blows hot air then cools down...had my thermostat changed, water pump replaced, hoses checked, heater core checked and flushed. Was told it could be the Coolant Temp Sensor or Heater Control Valve...looked for the Heater control Valve online at Auto Zone but there was nothing for my car only the Coolant Temp Sensor and a Temp Switch. Do you have an idea of what the problem could be???

I would be getting the radiator cleaned, just a garden hone back flush is not good enough, it will need a pressure clean and flow test, start there.

You have changed a number of things….what was it doing for you to change all of these things?

My thought without any testing right now is you may have air in yours system right now and change your radiator cap.

Have you checked the codes on the car? If not, please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O’Reilly’s (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery, alternator and starter.

Looks like you may have some recalls on your vehicle. The dealer may fix these for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on these to see if they apply to you.
