Engine Cooling problem
1996 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
When the van is idling it starts to overheat and when its driving at 60 it overheats all the way, " i replaced the thermostat today and that did not fix the problem .what other things could be wrong to make it overheat.
does it have electrical fan or regular clutch fan?if electrical check that fan motor works.just tun on the engine and then turn on the ac and fan should run in a bit means ok.if regular fan check that the fan clutch is not weak.also flush the radiator and clean.possible your radiator is to dirty or coroded inside that it restricts water from flowing good.also check oil and water mixture means bad head gasket.chek oil dip stick and see if the oil looks mixed with water .l brown tan muddy color.also under oil fill cap check for same color cant miss it wont look like regular oil.and make sure radiator is clean on the outside too.to many leaves bugs etc dirt etc .clean.you can also chek if electric fan motor is good my removing it and direct power to it with wires and the batt.i dont think it has electrical fan but never know.good luck
