Engine Cooling problem
1996 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 130000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
The car has new thermostat in it. Also has new ac high press switch and rfi module. I can jump the fans at the power dist box on the left fender and they come on and run.
The car ran in the driveway without ac and the fans came on and cycled like they're supposed to. I took the car for a drive and it overheated in just over a mile. Difference was that I had turned the ac on.
I figured out that the fans come on normally when the ac is turned on. The first time that the engine gets above idle, the fans shut down and will not come back on. The ac compressor continues to run until it's shut down due to head pressure. After that, the compressor cycles with head pressure and the fans do not come back on.
I'm not getting and fault codes in either the flash codes or via my code reader. I did trigger a 35 code when I unplugged the fan relay at the power dist box.
This is beginning to sound like a pcm problem to me. Does anybody have any other ideas?
