1996 Chrysler New Yorker 113000 miles

while changing a tire my Chrysler fell off the jack . The axle went into the dirt. After I replaced the tire , and went for a test drive I heard a weird sort of grinding sound and found the brake pedal went down to the floor. It only stopped after a ton of pumping. I also got a brake light on. What could I have broken and how expensive will it be to fix.

I would check the brake fluid as you may of ruptured a brake line, i would check around the brake that hit the ground and check for fluid leaking, you will not be able to drive the car until you get the brakes fix, as for cost this will depend of the damage done.

I am 19 and don't have much money . Hoping to get this fixed without needing a second job. I checked and did not see any fluid leaking and the brake fluid level appears normal. Are there other brake related items in that area that I may have damaged besides brake line? Guess it's back to riding my bike to work for a while. BTW can someone wetting the ground near a car that is on a jack cause the car to slip?

If there is no fluid loss, that is a good sign, the grinding noise may be a bent backing plate rubbing on the disc, but the lack of pressure is a mystery i think you will have to get it inspected first hand by a mechanic as you often need to see first hand these problems, as for the car slipping off the jack, this will be due to the care not being positioned correctly, or it was jacked up on unstable ground, you should do this on concrete or the tarred road surface.

we seem to have enough braking power to get to our local auto repair. we live in a small town thankfully , not much traffic. I think it may be time for a trade in and payment. My dad thinks it may be the master cylinder which sounds pricey.
