Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Chrysler LHS 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 76000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a question about my 96 Chrysler LHS. For some reason a couple weeks ago, my car started idling up towards 3000 rpms when I started it up, at dead stops, and in neutral. On the road it was fine, but then I noticed that when I was driving I could take my foot off the gas with no braking, and the car would keep accelerating. A mechanic ran a diagnostic on it, and stated that the idle speed motor was bad. I replaced that, and i am still having the same issue. help me!

Okay, here is a fix for you I am sure. The intake gaskets are probably bad. Take starting fluid, brake cleaner, carb and choke cleaner or some other highly flamable aerosol and spray it below the intake plenum. It is the upper most aluminum part of your engine. More than likely it is bad. If it changes the idle get an upper intake gasket. costs about 5 bucks. take off the two egr tubes on the back of the intake. take off the 4 torx screws to take the black over off the top of the intake. two 5/8"? bolts through two black brackets on either side of the upper intake plenum are holding it on. four 10mm bolts hold the upper intake plenum on the engine... remove them ... lift up the upper plenum, clear old gasket, clean surfaces, install new gasket. tighten everything back up in reverse order. ... problem solved?

The intake gaskets were the problem. I really appreciate your assistance in solving this issue. Would have costed me a fortune going to shop to have them figure it out, and I did it myself for about $10. You are awesome.
