Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Chevy Tahoe V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 88000 miles

I HAVE A 96 TAHOE WITH 88,000 MILES ON IT. It has been a decent car except for the miles per which I only get about 10. Purrs like a kitten till it started making squeaking and knocking noises at startup. I had it towed to a reputible repair shop though maybe i should have went to the chevy dealer. The repair shop said it was getting ready to throw a rod on both sides of the engine. After 88,000 miles? i I bought it with 69,000 mile on it 2 1/2 yaers ago. This car has thier 350 v8 engine which everyone I have talked to says it's a great motor. Service has always been done on this car since i bought it and this happens. Do I have to replace the engine ?? The car looks like new but geezzz, is it worth 4000 on a rebuilt engine replacement?
