Engine Performance problem
1996 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 240000 miles
My problem is when I drive for a while or my car idles for a extended amount of time or if I drive in heavy traffic the engine temperture go's up and when I trun the car off trying to start back up is a problem. If it starts it will start back firing idling rough and cut off and after about 45 minutes it will start and run like nothing ever happened. It seem like somthing a sensor is bad but I can't find out which on it is. Will the oxegin sensor or the crank sensor do this?

Have the computer scanned at a parts store. Most will do it for free and will identify if there is a sensor problem. Also, check the intake / head gaskets for leaks. Finally, does the cooling fan come on when it gets hot? Also, check the coolant level to make sure it's full.
Let me know what you find.
