Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 146000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Turn key to start engine and nothing happens. Checked battery and all electrical wireing everything seems to be in good order. The PRNDL shifter is located on the steering column, and I shook it in both P and N while trying to start engine, NOTHING!
I replaced the Ignition switch located on the column to no avail. All the instrument panel lights and bells and whistles come on and all electrical componets seem to be in working order. I can even cross jump the starter solenoid and start the engine with the key switch in the on position. 1996 Chevy Lumina 3.1 with 146000 miles Any suggestions

Have you checked you park/neutral safety switch and/or your brake pedal safety switch?

Also, you may have a problem with your theft deterrent system.

My problem is the theft deterrent system. It's not reading the chip in my key. Can I install a PASSLOCK bypass module on my car? How would I do that? My repair manual does not show the theft deterrent system.

There are websites where you can buy the module.
I would give those sites a call and ask if there's something they can do for you car, how it works, if it comes with instructions, etc.
Now I got to tell you: I don't know for sure that a bypass module would fix your problem; I make no guarantee. I just know that there are bypass modules out there.

You should also go to a chevy dealer. Maybe your problem is as simple as recalibrating the system or getting a new key.You could also need a new IPC, or a new ignition.

The key cylinder switch was not reading the chip in my key. I ended up bypassing this read. I cut the orange wire coming from the switch and inserted a 750 ohms resister in a loop. This by-passed the key read.
