2000 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 85000 miles

I recently purchased this vehicle and I am trying to find some information about the air conditioning compressor. When the vehicle is idling the air conditioner compressor keeps engaging for a few seconds then disengages. This does this continuous when the air is not on. Is there a switch that controls this or a way that I can disable the compressor? I would like to repair this myself, I can't afford to take it to a garage. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi:
The reason the compressor keeps going in and out is most likely because it's low on freon. Once the pressure gets low, the compressor can't stay on.

Joe,
Why would the compressor want to keep kicking in if the controller isn't calling for air and the control is on rad bfor warm.
Thanks, Les

Hi:
By chance do you have the defroster on? If so, that will turn the ac on. If not, there must be a short in the switch. To disable the compressor, just disconnect the wire going to it. Let me know if it's possibly the defroster.

If the switch is off, does the compressor work?

Hi Guys,
I just ran the vehicle for awhile trying different configurations. When the defrost is on the compressor kicks in and out like before even when the comfort switch is on red for heat. When the switch is on for air it also kicks in and out. When the control is on the floor only it doesn't want to kick in.I temporarily disconnected the compressor for the time being.Does this sound like a switch, and if so is it something I might be able to replace if you were to tell me where it is and how to do it? Thanks for the help.
Les

Hi:
I go back to my original thought, the system is low on freon. The compressor should run with the defroster on regardless of the temp setting in the car. So, if it cycles with the defroster and AC, I still say it has low pressure.

Recharge the AC and let me know what happens.

Joe
